Sustainability is complicated. There are many moving parts in your own organization – product divisions, different brand and product categories with their associated functions – and these parts need to interact smoothly with a crazy amount of other moving parts. Your suppliers. Their suppliers. Chemical companies. Farmers. It’s complicated and can be overwhelming on the best of days. But business as usual is not and will never be an option until sustainable business is the norm.
Textile Exchange has a proven record and we’re ready to help you no matter where your starting point might be on your sustainability journey.
Training and Education
In-house training and workshops. A sustainability strategy is only successful if it's actually embedded in the organization. Our trainings are focused on educating everyone from material developers to senior executives, design, development and procurement teams as well as shop floor staff on a diversity of topics to help you meet your goals.
Textile Exchange has delivered workshops at companies like Eileen Fisher, MQ Retail and Hoss Intropia (fiber impacts, materials options, and integrity), Inditex Group’s Oysho and Tempe (the case for sustainability, product sustainability) and Tchibo (organic and more sustainable cotton options).
Webinars. For easier access (and less CO2!), we're making more and more of our trainings available in webinar format. You can either sign up for a Textile Exchange webinar series, or we can schedule a session for your organization on the topics that support your specific needs and goals.
Seminars. Los Angeles, Amsterdam, Izmir, New York City, Barcelona, and London have all played host to our successful seminars on textile sustainability that are aimed at educating textile and apparel professionals. The objective is to build a platform that brings together experts and industry practitioners as well as provide an open and neutral ground to discuss challenges and best practices.
Visit events on TextileExchange.org for upcoming seminars.
Public speaking. Our experienced, personable, and global staff works closely with businesses and organizations on textile sustainability including the different facets of developing the right business case, key and emerging market trends and innovations, or more in-depth sessions on environmental impacts, preferred fibers, social issues, and integrity.
Textile Exchange customizes every presentation according to the specific need of the organization, the event, and the targeted audience. Please see our topics presented in 2012 and feel free to ask about additional topics.
Guidance and Advice
Strategy development. We help businesses build and implement successful product sustainability programs ranging from materials strategies (e.g. integration of environmentally preferred materials) to smart design, choosing the right claims, and developing more transparent and successful value chains.
Textile Exchange assists and supports companies such as Inditex (Zara), Tchibo, Nike, Skunkfunk, Tejidos Royo, and Nordstrom in their textile sustainability journey. A recent project with European retailer C&A helped them secure a reliable supply of organic cotton fiber, thereby strengthening the farming community in India and giving their brand a great story to tell at retail.
Mentoring of in-house personnel. Bringing the skills and experiences of our TE staff to help you with one-on-one mentoring of brand executives or on-boarding of new hires who have recently started on the sustainability journey, we can take this off your plates and ensure your brand's particular culture is infused throughout any program.
Sourcing assistance. We help companies find the right sourcing partners for more sustainable materials such as organic and fair trade cotton, hemp, cellulosics, biopolymers, and recycled fibers.
Development of support tools. We develop and co-develop tools needed for embedding sustainability knowledge and practices within organizations to ensure a successful sustainability journey. For an example of this work, download the Organic Cotton Fiber Guide here.
Event support. If you are looking for a knowledgeable partner on textile sustainability for your tradeshow or industry event, we can help you define the relevant content and deliver quality material that adds demonstrable value to your audience.
